After 12 hours and nearly 700 miles, day one is complete! We're safe and sound in a hotel shaped as a castle with a statue of a knight on a horse guarding the entrance. Pictures of that later. It was a pretty eventful day. The interstate took us up close and personal with the St. Louis Arch, and Lindsey took some fantastic pictures of that. We stopped at a Maid Rite, which I have never had before but Lindsey had some fantastic memories of from growing up, and it was indeed fantastic. Great milkshakes. We also saw a small rainbow, which I tried to get a good picture of. Oh, and a bird collided with the truck in mid-flight. Lindsey slept through that, but it caught me off guard, that's for sure.
Driving hasn't been a problem. In fact, we probably could have kept going tonight, except that we're a few miles outside of Omaha and I didn't know how easy it would be to find a hotel once we were past the city. We just got on I-80, which is the long stretch of our drive (1600 miles) and that's the only road we'll be on all day tomorrow, and the next day as well.
We miss all of you guys a lot. It wasn't easy leaving this morning, and we're going to want to talk to everyone as much as possible! Call us, email us, all that good stuff. Leave comments on this blog. I'll make sure to make another post tomorrow, maybe even two once we can get pictures up. Until then, enjoy the pictures we took today!
*jealous* St. Louis Arch...awesome. Oh, and I expect pictures of you throwing beans at people.

HIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDelete*pant* love the pictures they're beautiful. Ria and I took pepper to the vet today and you will be happy to hear he doesn't have heartworms :D
Sergie is a lot more comfortable now and ria has started to think that it wasn't that he wasn't using his litter box, but that everything we found was just hairballs *ewwww* all is safe and sound at this end. I hope that bird didn't kill itself, could've broken its neck colliding with a truck lol wish I had been there for that. Have a safe 2nd day! :D

From the photos of yourselves it's my guess that when you stop for the night your new and best friend becomes the first shower you can fight to get into, right? Or perhaps there is no fight at all? Hmmmmm... :-)
ReplyDeleteYour mom/mom-in-law set me up with a new e-mail address at yahoo until we can sent this nasty virus on our PC to Nasty Virus Hell where it belongs.
I've seen the St. Louis Arch many times. St. Louis was always a bus stop change for me when I came down from college in Quincy, Illinois to visit your mom. The bus I was on coming into the city would go over a bridge and there would be the Arch. Mostly I saw it at night all lit up. Pretty cool as I remember it.
Son, when you next are in contact with Jarrod ask him if he received the letter and Rams info I sent him several weeks ago. He doesn't have to write me back. I just want to know if he got it. Thanks.
I'm thinking of writing a new song based upon Old MacDonald's Farm. Something like this:
"Old MacDonald has some meds.
Eee-Eye-Eee-Eye Oh, Baby! I am talking to a cow and it feels sooooo right!"
What do you think? Shows some promise? ;-)
Prayed very hard for the two of you over at St. Aloysius Chapel yesterday before the Blessed Sacrament. My Novena to St. Joseph the Worker is into it's fouth day. St. Joe is a very good sport and I have no doubt that he will come through. He always has before and he will again. It always comes down in the end to having a little faith, doesn't it?
My love to you both. The term "in-law" is just a formality to me. I love Lindsey as if she were my own daughter. I think I always have. The first time several years ago when I turned my head and she was sticking her tongue out at me for no apparant reason I knew then: THIS was the girl for Russ!!!
Our Lord and His Most Holy Mother and your Guardian Angels bless and watch over you.
Peace and all that is good.
Love,
Dad/Todd
It's such an adventure! I'm a little envious! I showed the photos you posted to the others in the pharmacy -- can't wait for more. Have lots of fun.
ReplyDeleteLove, Mom
nice! hope you guys are having a safe trip and aren't too bored yet. one more day!
ReplyDeleteSo you two crazy kids skipped out on the Sin City of Reno and went straight for the Golden Gate Ring!!! Good for you.
ReplyDeleteRuss, if you had continued on with your first real love in life--dinosaurs--a place like Wyoming would have put you into a 7th heaven of sorts, I think. :-)
It poured longer and harder last night than it takes Micheal Jackson to pour over which morning make-up to use. I just hope the weather holds for the huge yard sale this Saturday at LaVerne's.
Sandy and the girls will be spending Friday night at LaVerne's home. Your mom says it's just easier to do that than for everybody here to get up at the crack of dawn to drive over there to set everything up.
Uncle Scott hopes to spend a 4-day weekend with us either in late June or early July.
Well, by the time you actually read this you'll be wondering(again) how in the world you ended up with so much stuff as you un-load the truck.
I'm just happy you got there safely.
Our Lord and His Most Holy Mother and St. Joseph bless and keep you both.
All my love,
Dad
Wow what an adventure! I'm sort of jealous if you don't count the whole "hate the idea of having to move" part. Hope we can keep in touch.

Got off the phone with you, Son, a few hours ago. I can't tell you how much I miss you and Lindsey. One the other hand I am equally excited for you and Lindsey now that you're in San Francisco and ready to get your lives there underway. Having gone a crazy route myself that ultimately brought me to Kentucky and your mom, I can appreciate a tad better than most what is before the two of you now.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing that would disappoint me is if in the future you would allow any children the Good God gives you to become 49er's fans. You are a 4th generation Giant fan, Russ, and it is up to you to see that there is a 5th. Never forget that when you were a baby the first words I got you to say were, "GO GIANTS!!!" It's a family tradition. :-)
Hope you like your new neighborhood and especially your new neighbors.
Our Lord and our Lady bless and keep you both.
All my love,
Dad
